The Personal Information We Collect
"Personal information" means information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular individual or household. It does not include de-identified or aggregated information. We collect the following categories of personal information:
-
Identifiers and contact information, such as your name, email address, mobile telephone number, billing and shipping addresses, account login information, and online identifiers such as cookie identifiers, device identifiers, device fingerprints, IP addresses, and hashed email addresses.

Order and payment information, such as the products you purchase, order history, returns, and payment information. Payment card information is collected and processed by Shopify and our other payment processors, and we do not store full payment card numbers on our systems.
-
subscription, rewards, and referral information, such as your subscription products, frequency, and status, your rewards points and activity, and, if you refer a friend, the name and email address you give us for that friend.
-
Communications, such as the content of messages you send us by email, through our help center, by text message, or through social media, and our records of those communications.
-
Reviews and other content you submit, such as reviews, ratings, photos, videos, and questions, and the name, location, or other information you submit with them.
-
Marketing information, such as your email and text message subscription status and consent records, the offers you receive through pop-ups and games, and whether you open or click our emails and text messages.
-
Internet and device activity, such as your browser type, operating system, device type, language, referring website, the pages you view, the products you view, search for, and add to your cart, the links and advertisements you click, the time you spend on pages, your clicks, taps, mouse movements, and scrolling, session recordings, and information you enter into forms on the Website.
-
Approximate location, such as your city, state, ZIP code, and time zone, which we infer from your IP address or your shipping address. We do not collect precise geolocation.
-
Inferences, such as your likely product interests and preferences based on the information above.
Sources of Personal Information
We collect personal information (i) directly from you, such as when you place an order, create an account, sign up for our emails or text messages, play a game or enter a pop-up, write a review, or contact us; (ii) automatically, through cookies, pixels, tags, and similar technologies when you use the Website or open our emails; (iii) from our service providers, such as Shopify, our payment processors, and our subscription and review providers; (iv) from advertising, analytics, and identity resolution partners, which may tell us that a visitor to the Website matches an email address or other identifier they hold; (v) from social media platforms when you interact with our pages or advertisements; (vi) from affiliates, influencers, and referral partners who send visitors to the Website; and (vii) from Amazon when you use Buy with Prime.

-
Comply with our legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Use, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
We do not use personal information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you through solely automated processing, but our service providers may use automated tools to screen orders for fraud.
Cookies, Pixels, and Other Tracking Technologies
Cookies are small files that a website or its service provider stores in your browser. Pixels, tags, scripts, and software development kits are small pieces of code that run when you load a web page or open an email, and that collect information about your visit and transmit it to us or to a third party. Device fingerprinting combines characteristics of your browser and device to create an identifier that can recognize your browser without a cookie. Session recording tools capture how you interact with a page so that the visit can be replayed or analyzed later. Some of these technologies send information directly from your browser to the third party that provides them. Others send information to us first, including through first-party collection domains such as i.uprootclean.com and ssc.uprootclean.com, and we then send it to the third party from our servers.
We use these technologies for the following purposes:
-
Strictly necessary: to operate the cart, checkout, customer accounts, subscriptions, and security features. The Website cannot function properly without them.
-
Functional: to remember your preferences, display reviews and videos, operate pop-ups, games, bundles, and the rewards and referral program, and provide customer support.
-
Analytics, attribution, and testing: to measure how visitors use the Website and which marketing leads to visits and purchases, to create heatmaps and session recordings, and to test prices, offers, and designs.
-
Advertising: to show you advertising for our products on other websites, apps, and platforms, to build audiences of people with similar interests, and to measure the results of our advertising.
-
Identity resolution: to recognize your browser or device across visits, and to link it to your email address, mobile number, or other identifiers, including identifiers held by our partners.
The following third parties provide cookies, pixels, tags, scripts, or similar tracking technologies on the Website as of the "Last Updated" date above. The last column shows whether we treat our use of that provider as a "sale" of personal information, "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising, or "targeted advertising" under state privacy laws.

In addition to the providers listed above, the Website loads code libraries, fonts, images, and videos from content delivery networks operated by Google (Google Fonts and Google Hosted Libraries), Cloudflare (cdnjs), Amazon Web Services (Amazon CloudFront), and DigitalOcean, which receive your IP address and browser information when they deliver that content. Our help center is hosted by Gorgias, Inc., and our ambassador program is hosted by Upfluence, Inc., each on its own website. Third-party websites, including those of the platforms we advertise on, may also place their own cookies on your browser when you visit them, which is governed by their own privacy policies.
We review this list periodically, and the providers we use may change. When they do, we will update this list.
Some of these providers also use the information they collect for their own purposes, as described in their own privacy policies, including to improve their services and to show you advertising on behalf of other companies. We also upload or transmit hashed email addresses, hashed mobile numbers that were not collected through our text message program, purchase information, and other identifiers to some advertising platforms, such as Google, Meta, TikTok, Snap, and Pinterest, so that they can match them to their users to show our advertising, exclude existing customers, build audiences of people with similar interests, and measure results.
You can control many cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information and targeted advertising as described in the section titled "Your Privacy Choices." Blocking cookies may not stop every technology described above, such as device fingerprinting or server-to-server transmissions, which is why we also honor the opt-out choices described below. You may also opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies at optout.aboutads.info and optout.networkadvertising.org, and you may opt out of Google Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
How We Disclose Personal Information
We disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients:
-
Service providers and contractors that operate the Website and our business on our behalf and under our instructions, including hosting, ecommerce, payment, fraud prevention, shipping and fulfillment, subscription, review, customer support, email and text messaging, pop-up, analytics, testing, and attribution providers;
-
Advertising partners, social media platforms, and identity resolution and data partners, as described in the section above titled "Cookies, Pixels, and Other Tracking Technologies";
-
Amazon, when you use Buy with Prime;
-
Affiliates, influencers, and referral partners, to the limited extent necessary to attribute and pay commissions for visits and purchases they refer;
-
Other users of the Website, when you post a review, photo, or other content, which is public;
-
Professional advisors, such as our accountants, auditors, insurers, and attorneys;
-
Government authorities, law enforcement, and other parties, when we believe disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or court order, or is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Uproot Clean, our customers, or others; and
-
Acquirers and their advisors, in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of all or part of our business or assets.
We may also disclose personal information with your consent or at your direction.
Sale and Sharing of Personal Information
We do not sell personal information for money. However, some state privacy laws define a "sale" of personal information broadly to include making personal information available to a third party for other valuable consideration, define "sharing" to include making personal information available for cross-context behavioral advertising, and define "targeted advertising" to include displaying advertisements based on activity across websites. Under those definitions, our use of the providers marked "Yes" in the table above may be a sale, sharing, or targeted advertising.
In the twelve (12) months before the "Last Updated" date above, we sold or shared the following categories of personal information to or with advertising partners, social media platforms, identity resolution and data partners, and referral partners: identifiers and contact information (including online identifiers, device fingerprints, hashed email addresses, and hashed mobile numbers not collected through our text message program), order information (commercial information), internet and device activity, approximate location, and inferences. We do not sell or share sensitive personal information, and we do not have actual knowledge that we sell or share the personal information of consumers under sixteen (16) years of age. You may opt out at any time as described in the section titled "Your Privacy Choices."
Sensitive Personal Information
The only sensitive personal information that we collect is the payment card information and account credentials that you provide to complete a purchase or access your account, which are processed by Shopify and our other payment and account providers. We use sensitive personal information only to complete your transactions, secure your account, prevent fraud, and as otherwise permitted by law, and we do not use or disclose it to infer characteristics about you.
How Long We Keep Personal Information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, considering the amount and sensitivity of the information, the purposes for which we use it, and our legal, tax, and accounting obligations. In general:
-
Order, payment, and return records are kept for [seven (7)] years after the transaction to meet tax, accounting, and legal requirements;
-
Account, subscription, and rewards information is kept while your account, subscription, or rewards balance is active and for [three (3)] years after your last activity;
-
Email and text message consent and opt-out records are kept for at least [five (5)] years after you opt out, so that we can honor your choices and demonstrate compliance;
-
Customer support communications are kept for [three (3)] years after the communication;
-
Internet and device activity, session recordings, and analytics data are kept for no more than [twenty-six (26)] months, and providers' own retention periods are described in their privacy policies; and
-
Reviews are kept for as long as they are displayed on the Website.
We may keep personal information longer where required by law or to preserve evidence related to a claim, investigation, or legal hold.
How We Protect Personal Information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, and payment information is encrypted in transit. No security measures are perfect, however, and we cannot guarantee the security of personal information. If we learn of a security breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and regulators as required by law.
Your Privacy Choices
Opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information and targeted advertising. You can opt out by clicking the "Your Privacy Choices" link at the bottom of every page of the Website, using the cookie preferences tool on the Website, or emailing help@uprootclean.com with the subject line "Privacy Request: Do Not Sell or Share." The "Your Privacy Choices" page explains how each option works.
Global Privacy Control. The Website recognizes the Global Privacy Control ("GPC") signal. If your browser or browser extension sends a GPC signal, we will treat it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising for that browser and, if you are logged in to your account or we otherwise know who you are, for your account. If we know who you are, your GPC signal will also stop us from including your hashed email address or mobile number in the lists we provide to advertising platforms. When we have honored your GPC signal, the Website will display "Opt-Out Request Honored" in our cookie preferences tool. We do not respond to other "Do Not Track" signals because there is no common understanding of how to interpret them.
[Post the GPC paragraph only after the consent tool is configured to honor GPC, and confirm by testing that the "Yes" providers stop firing when a GPC signal is present. Remove this note before posting.]
Marketing emails and text messages. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. You can opt out of marketing text messages by replying STOP or as described in our SMS Program Terms. Opting out of marketing messages does not stop transactional messages about your orders, subscriptions, or account.
Cookies. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the Website, such as the cart and checkout, may not work.
Your State Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, including if you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, you may have some or all of the following rights, subject to exceptions under applicable law:
-
Right to know and access: to confirm whether we process your personal information and to know and obtain the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the purposes for which we use it, and the categories of third parties to which we disclose, sell, or share it, and, where applicable law provides it, a list of the specific third parties to which we have disclosed personal information;
-
Right to portability: to receive a copy of your personal information in a portable and readily usable format;
-
Right to correct: to correct inaccurate personal information;
-
Right to delete: to delete personal information we have collected from or about you;
-
Right to opt out: to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information, targeted advertising, and profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects (which we do not engage in);
-
Right to limit: to limit the use of sensitive personal information (which we use only for permitted purposes, as described above); and
-
Right not to be retaliated against or discriminated against: not to receive retaliatory or discriminatory treatment for exercising your rights. We will not deny you goods or services, charge you different prices, or provide a different quality of goods or services because you exercised your rights, except as permitted by law in connection with a financial incentive program you have chosen to join.
How to submit a request. To submit a request to know, access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, email help@uprootclean.com with the subject line "Privacy Request," or write to us at the address above. To opt out, use the methods described in the section titled "Your Privacy Choices." You do not need to create an account to submit a request.
Verification. To protect your personal information, we will verify your identity before responding to a request to know, access, correct, or delete, by asking you to confirm information we already have, such as your email address, mobile number, and recent order details. We do not need to verify your identity to process an opt-out request, but we may ask for enough information to locate your records.
Authorized agents. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We may require the agent to provide signed written permission from you, or a valid power of attorney, and may require you to verify your identity directly with us.
Response timing. We will confirm receipt of a request within ten (10) business days and respond within forty-five (45) days, or within any longer period permitted by law, in which case we will tell you why we need more time. We will process opt-out requests as soon as feasible and in any event within fifteen (15) business days.
Appeals. If you live in a state that provides a right to appeal and we decline to take action on your request, you may appeal our decision by emailing help@uprootclean.com with the subject line "Privacy Request Appeal" within forty-five (45) days after our decision. We will respond to your appeal within the time required by law. If we deny your appeal, you may contact your state's Attorney General.

Notice of Financial Incentive. We offer discounts, free gifts, "Scratch to Win" offers, rewards points, and referral credits (each, an "Incentive") to people who sign up for our emails or text messages, join our rewards and referral program, or refer a friend. To participate, you provide your email address and/or mobile number, and, for the rewards and referral program, your order and referral activity. The material terms of each Incentive are described in the sign-up form or program terms where it is offered. You may opt in by completing the sign-up form or enrolling in the program, and you may withdraw at any time by unsubscribing, replying STOP, or contacting us at help@uprootclean.com, although Incentives already redeemed will not be reversed and unredeemed Incentives may be forfeited. We believe the value of your personal information to us is reasonably related to the value of the Incentive offered. We calculate that value in good faith based on the expected revenue from, and the costs of, offering the Incentive and operating our marketing programs, and, using that method, we estimate the value of the personal information of a typical email subscriber to be approximately $2 and the value of the personal information of a typical text message subscriber to be approximately $4. We review these estimates periodically and update them when our programs or results change. You may not be eligible for some Incentives if you choose not to provide your information.
Shine the Light. California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits California residents to request information about the disclosure of their personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes, as that term is used in Section 1798.83. To make a request, contact us at help@uprootclean.com.
Metrics. If we are required by law to disclose metrics about the requests we received in the prior calendar year, we will post them on this page.
Nevada Residents
Nevada residents may submit a request directing us not to sell certain covered information that we have collected or will collect about them. To submit a request, email help@uprootclean.com with the subject line "Nevada Do Not Sell Request" and include your name, mailing address, and email address.
Text Message Program
When you join our text message program, we collect your mobile number, your consent records, the messages you send us, and information about your interactions with the messages we send. We use this information to operate the program, and we disclose it to the service providers that help us deliver text messages. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, except with the service providers that help us operate the program and deliver text messages, and except as required by law. Your use of the text message program is governed by our SMS Program Terms.

If you are located outside the United States and have questions about our processing of your personal information, please contact us at help@uprootclean.com.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated Privacy Policy on the Website and change the "Last Updated" date above. If we make a material change to how we use or disclose personal information that we have already collected, we will notify you by email or through a notice on the Website before the change takes effect and, where required by law, obtain your consent.
